Ok, we've resigned ourselves to taking the rear suspension apart in order to remove the diff and thus allow access to the propshaft... So, how do we go about it then? Basics - JackingRight, let's jack the car up then... Ah, hang on - we normally raise the car using the rear A-frame mount and then support the car using axle-stands from the ends of the DeDion tube itself. So what's the... Well, we're going to detach the De Dion tube from virtually the whole of the rest of the car - and that means the axle stands will have to be placed elsewhere. Luckily, two suitable positions do exist - one on the left by the towing eye, and an equivalent position on the right hand side of the vehicle: Click Image for Full Size The white arrow points to the normal axle stand position - i.e. supporting the DeDion tube, just inboard of the rear wheels. Once the car is safely up, it'll be time to start pulling things apart (Don't forget that you'll want to raise the front-end too... - try to shove some of the wheels slightly under the car for extra protection in unlikely case of the car falling of the jacks.) |
