North East Retail Crime Partnership

Retailers in the region have long been proactive in the fight at a local level against retail crime, from the launch of CCTV and radio retail links to the introduction of Exclusion Notices.

The next step was the establishment of a region-wide information sharing scheme called the North East Retail Crime Partnership. Co-ordinated from the Coalition's offices, this partnership tackles the problem of shop thieves travelling throughout the region. Information on known shop thieves provided by retailers is collated and sent out to all member stores so they can identify the key individuals who are causing them problems, even if they do travel between locations.
Further benefits of the scheme include detailed statistical analysis on theft patterns for stores. A recent development is the training of volunteers to act as a resource to Youth Offending Teams throughout the region. Acting as the 'victim', they are able to explain the true effects of shoptheft to the young offenders. For more information see Retail Victim Initiative

Business Crime Initiative

In the past there has been difficult for the police to identify the risks business face and how they can protect themselves. Through more new analyst tools the Coalition Against Crime can identify what crimes are being reported by business in a particular area and this can help new and existing businesses prioritise how to use limited resources to protect themselves. Advice and self assessment is available through the "Secure Workplace" website.
