The Northumbria Coalition Against Crime is an independent registered charity working to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for those living in the North East through partnerships with the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Membership of the Coalition is drawn from industry and commerce, the police, local authorities and individuals who all share a wish to reduce crime and the fear of crime in our region. (Click here for a full list of Coalition members)

What does it do?

    The Coalition combines the finances, skills, experience and resources available from all these organisations to facilitate crime prevention initiatives in response to identified needs. The Coalition has two main areas of activity - Business Crime Initiatives and the Youth Programme.

Business Crime Initiatives

  

This group concentrates on the effect of crime on businesses throughout the region and implements measures to tackle the problems. Examples of these are an initiative to help businesses hit by burglary, the establishment of the North East Retail Crime Partnership to target prolific shop thieves in the region, and involvement in Crime Free Zone.

The Youth Programme

  

The Coalition's Youth Programme focuses on giving young people opportunities to express themselves, develop skills and confidence and participate in constructive activities. For example, the Odysseus Mentoring Project aims to link young people at risk of offending with a mentor from the business or voluntary sector. The SkiL Project helps committed young people to develop their leadership skills with a view to supporting others in the community.

How to join the Coalition Against Crime

  

Companies can become members and their contribution identifies them with others taking a stand against crime
Individuals can become volunteers with our mentoring programme or other aspects of our work.
