Gibson of Mexborough

Robert Gibson was born about 1800 in Mexborough, and became an agricultural labourer. There were a number of small farms at this time in what was to become a small mining and industrial town. In the early 1820s he married Sarah ?, who had been born around 1796 in Mexborough. Their known children were 

George was baptised 8 February 1824 at Mexborough. On 1 August 1848 he married Elizabeth Goodman at Sprotborough. Elizabeth had been born in Sheffield. At the time of his marriage, George was a stone quarryman, and by the time of the 1851 census was listed as a mason. He probably worked in the stone quarry which was in the Dolcliffe Road area of Mexborough.

George and Elizabeth had four known children
