The core of Desafinado is guitar duo Marcus Ford (acoustic nylon strung guitar) and Nick Gent (semi-acoustic guitar) with other musicians (such as Marcus's wife Trudie) joining as required. See Marcus's web page for more Jazz resources.
Desafinado specialise in providing just the right atmosphere for any occasion through cool, easy-listening jazz with strong influences from the Bossa Nova era, and from 1950's west coast jazz. Influences include Paul Desmond, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, Jim Hall, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, and more recently Scotland's own Martin Taylor.
Desafinado can be heard at the award-winning Suruchi Restaurant on Wednesday's from 7:00pm (opposite Edinburgh's Festival Theatre). They also have a long-standing residency (12 years now!) at Henderson's Wine Bar on Hanover street on alternate Thursdays.
Desafinado is named after a well know Bossa Nova tune written
by Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. It means literally 'slightly out of
tune'; perhaps a reference to the fact that the tuning of Marcus and Nick's
guitars tends to drift in opposite directions as the venue heats up!
Performing at Suruchi Indian Restaurant, Edinburgh.
