India & Nepal

I visited India and Nepal for two weeks in 2000, at the hottest time of the year. Starting at Calcutta and ending in Delhi, it was an exhausting trip but with some very worthwhile sights and experiences. After the dirt and noise of Calcutta, I travelled by bus into Nepal, despite a day's delay due to a strike at the border. I met up with an old friend in Kathmandu and enjoyed some fascinating sightseeing and shopping, plus some strange activities such as an evening performace by chanting Buddhist nuns!!

From Kathmndu I flew to Delhi. Although this (right) looks like a modern art statue, the photo  shows an ancient astronomical instrument at Janter Manter. But the highlight of the trip though was certainly the Taj Mahal in Agra. It really lives up to expectations and is as stunning close up as it is in the distance. Altogether a tiring but fascinating trip!
