I wanted to visit Japan in 1999 to contrast it with China where I had worked for the three previous years. there were many similarities, but lots of differences too. Obviously, Japan was more modern, clean and efficient. But it’s much more expensive, plus I didn’t find the people as welcoming and friendly overall.
Hiroshima was perhaps the most fascinating city, with its infamous history. This dome was left as it looked after the atomic bomb, as part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
Japan has lots of Samurai houses. castles and gardens as well as some well-renovated ancient villages, such as the Hida Folk Village. I particularly wanted to go there because of the similarity to my surname “Hider” . Click here for information on my Japan trip
