I visited Korea to meet friends Rikki, Sandi & daughter Miel who I know from China. In Seoul I visited palaces, temples, museums and a Folk Village where there were old houses, dancers and exhibits.
I took an overnight "sleep on the floor" ferry down the west coast to Chedu Island, south of Korea. During my three days there I saw the island's volcanoes, craters, waterfalls and spectacular skies. Then it was an overnight ferry up the east coast to Busan.
The holiday highlight was a tour to the "Demilitarised Zone". It's the most heavily defended border in the world yet, as North Korean guards observed us through binoculars, we briefly hopped over the border line before scuttling back to the safety of South Korea!
In Busan I undertook a 24km hike up a mountain, getting very sunburnt, before taking a bus on to Kyongju, the ancient capital of Korea. There I visited burial mounds, ancient tombs, temples and some really beautiful gardens. This one was bursting with hungry carp! All in all, a brilliant holiday.
