A series of short observations and comments from God's Word, the Bible.

Adam's Sin - Our Sin

It is often difficult to accept the concept of all mankind being in sin through the choice of Adam. However there is a simple way of looking at this uncomfortable topic which explains how we can be in sin without our conscious decision.

If we decide to go camping on a hill side, we will look around to find a clean source of water. We will put up our tents near to a clear, cool, running stream. How pleasant it is to drink that really refreshing, clear water.

What we don't see is that further up stream, another camper has dumped his rubbish and litter into the stream. What we believed was clean and pure was in fact tainted and perhaps even poisoned!

So it is with our "righteousness". We may feel that we are good people and not consciously choosing to break God's law. However, further upstream, Adam has made a choice which we cannot change. He dumped his litter in the stream of our relationship with God. Instead of the pure and holy walk with the Lord, we have been poisoned and tainted by Adam's sin.

Of course in the case of the polluted stream, there is nothing that we can do to purify the water. Likewise, we cannot rectify are sinful position in the sight of God. Only Jesus can do that. Have you let Him cleanse you from the pollution and dirt of your sin?
