This picture of Westwood, shows that football is a winter game, sometimes played in very bleak conditions. Somewhere beyond the trees lies the pitch. The posts and nets have not been put up yet. Just a reminder to us all that the sun doesn't always shine!!
On 18/2/01 we had a team photo of the lads, prior to the match. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out quite as planned! Award yourself a gold star if you spot the unintended error!!
Back Row From L to R: - Mark Shenton (Manager), Chris Leigh, Gareth Allott, Sam Hall, Jim Brunt, Matt Bayley, James Brough, Oliver Edwards, Tom Bourne, Steve Allott (Assistant Manager)
Front Row From L to R: - Jamie Robinson, Adam Wood, Danny Gruic, Matt Anderson, Paul Nutten, Mitch Shenton. Absent - Jonna Goodier.
LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL
4/3/01
BLUES (in yellow) WON 6-1
Jamie Robinson nets thr first of his four. Jamie and Oliver, not very well marked by six defenders. Danny Gruic takes on 5 defenders. Broughy waits patiently. Another one hits the back of the net. Oliver Edwards (15) watches. Mitch doing the "dead ant" which we do in training. Either that or "The Dambusters". Matt Anderson is a head of everyone else, in this midfield congestion. Matt Anderson, with Paul Nutten in close support. Give me the ball, says Broughy. Sam Hall (2) and Jamie Robinson (8), but no ball. Spot the ball time again! A few more playing this time, though. Jamie takes on the Endon defence, with Oliver in close attendance.. Jamie waits for the cross to come over. Yellows defend in numbers. Someone (?) breaking from defence. There are some shadey characters at these games, nowadays. Oliver sets up Jamie's fourth goal. Some loyal Endon fans: - Kevin, Doreen and Dolly, Return to top
CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 1
25/02/01
BLUES (in yellow) WON 3-0
There'snow way we'll be ready for kick off time. Manager Mark Shenton dances in the snow. Don't laugh, lads, this is your new training regime. The warm up - if that's the right word! Name the players - this week's quiz entry. Don't give them any room, lads. Again, if the first doesn't get the ball, there are two more covering. Action on Blues' right flank. Shino and Tom Bourne look on. Notice how the snow is starting to go, and it's still in the first half. Blues seem to work in threes - not a bad idea. Here Danny Gruic, Broughy and Matt Anderson combine. Well kept in Matt. If you thought Leek Town's supporters were a motley crew, get a load of this lot!!! Ladies excepted! Yellows celebrate their first goal, scored by Sam Hall. Ashlea Sherratt clears the ball, watched carefully by Jamie Robinson. Matt Bayley turns to celebrate his well struck penalty. The midfield trio (again) of Matt Anderson, James Brough and Danny Gruicdon't want the lead to slip. Sam Hall "scores" but unfortunately it's disallowed. Can't figure out what's happening at all, here! A jubilant Oliver Edwards turns after scoring Blues' third. Chris Leigh (14) gets involved . The snow's going, going ....... .....not quite gone yet! Its gone now, along with Milton's chances in the Cup. Blues celebrate a very deserved win. Return to top
LEAGUE MATCH
18/02/01
BLUES (in yellow) WON 2-0
Broughy shows where he wants the ball, while Matt Anderson marks three players. Jamie Robinson appears to be well marked, but at least his hands are warm. Whatever is on his hands is obviously contagious. A ball from the left comes in to Jamie Robinson, with Danny Gruic in close support. Matt Anderson attempting to block a clearance. Matt Bayley can't miss! Mind you it would help if he had a ball! The early sunshine has now disappeared. Today's question - Name the players. Answers on a postcard to ..... What on earth has the Maybank player been doing? Paul Nutten investigates. This picture superbly demonstrates Shino's bald patch (left), and the Maybank linesman - sorry! - assistant referee!! Junior Yellows (hasn't quite got the same ring to it) on the attack. Oliver Edwards (12) and Sam Hall (2) wait for the cross to come over. They say the camera never lies, but the pitch seems to be on the side of steep hill, whereas in actual fact, it ia flat. Matt Anderson sets up another attack, assisted by Sam Hall. Josie and Dave Anderson can be seen in the background "on top of the hill" that's not there!! Matt Anderson (foreground) and Jamie Robinson on the attack. Two Junior Blues try to stop the clearance. Adam Poyser in the Maybank goal, foils Blues, yet again. Paul Nutten has sneaked up again, to support, as Oliver Edwards (12) and Sam Hall wait in vain for the loose ball. Return to top
LEAGUE MATCH
11/02/01
BLUES (in yellow) WON 3-1
Matt Anderson attempts to close the ball down. Matt Bayley (3) prepares to help. Adam Wood (centre) and Mitch Shenton (right) lead the defence out. Will he or won't he? No! Of course he won't head it! Either Blues are celebrating Jamie Robinson's first goal, or else it is the worst case of marking you'll ever see. Could be either! "This ball tastes good" says ex-Blue, Philip Tomczak. Matt Anderson gets in a tangle. Matt Anderson (I think) hares down on a Trubshaw defender before he can clear the ball. Paul Nutten (5) has got his feet planted firmly on "terra firma", whilst others seem to be defying the Laws of Gravity. Chris Leigh runs back to help out his defence. Matt Anderson turns in celebration of his goal. Broughy? (partially hidden) Paul Nutten (5) and jonna Goodier (12) mark a line of Trubshaw players. Is that ex-Blue Sam Pearce doing up his laces? Blues defend in numbers (for a change!). They may get past one or even two defenders, but they'll not get past three - will they? Jonna, Mitch and Paul are in attendance. Mitch Shenton (7) is just a little bit outnumbered! Did it go in or not? I stand to be corrected on thisone, but I think it did. In which case, despite a last ditch effort from Tom Bourne (9), James Watkins scores for Trubshaw. Paul and Adam arrive too late to prevent it. Pistols at dawn! Perhaps someone should tell Jonna Goodier that in a duel, you should start walking back to back! Paul Nutten (5), obviously not used to playing two halves of a match, finds himself (lost) in the opposition penalty area. Didn't anyone tell him that you change ends at half time? There's always one, isn't there! Can anybody think of a suitable CAP - tion for this? E-mail if you do. Return to top

BLUES (in yellow) WON 9-1
Action in the Warriors' six-yard box. The keeper, although outnumbered, comes out on top , on this occasion. Matt Bayley (left) and Gareth Allott are foiled again. Jamie Robinson turns to celebrate his first goal. Gareth Allott also turns to celebrate his first goal. Jamie Robinson (no 8) and Gareth Allott (no 10), get in where it hurts. As one attacks the front post, the other prepares to attack the space behind him. Gareth Allott celebrates his hat trick. A panoramic action photo - IE apart from recognising "Broughy" (in yellow on right), I've got no idea what's happening! Three mischievous imps if ever there were any! Gary Nutten (front), Joel Bayley and Matt Allott ( the two on the far right), are actually (sort of ) watching the game. Also pictured are big brothers Matt Bayley and Gareth Allott. Missed again! Junior Blues' supporters (part of "the Motley Crew") watch intently. Blues fail to penetrate a crowded Warriors' area. Two Junior Blues take on the luckless keeper. They can't miss. Oh yes they can! LEAGUE MATCH
14/1/01
BLUES (In yellow) WON 2-0
With the start delayed due to an overnight frost, Mark Shenton gets the pitch "rolled" by telling the boys that he's dropped a penny on the ground, and whoever finds it, can keep it. Good job they're not taking part in the Krypton Factor! I thought you only had line outs in Rugby Union? Please don't ask me to indentify the players. Five players converge on the ball, with the ref keeping up with play a bit too well. Blues (in yellow) defend a corner - BADLY it must be said. Notice the number of blue shirts that are not being picked up, or no-one is goalside of them!!! It'll have snow on it, when the ball comes back to Earth. Manager Steve Allott considers his options. resignation sounds good at the moment, he thinks. Behind him, can be seen more of the "motley crew" of Blues' supporters. Land Ahoy, shipmates!! Spot the ball! Where is it? asks Matt Anderson? Blues' keeper, Jim Brunt, prepares to take a goal kick. Scorers' keeper gets ready to catch a (very) high ball, watches carefully by No 8, Jamie Robinson. It doesn't get any better, does it Steve? A panoramic view of westwood, with some players somewhere! It was good to see Matt Anderson back with us. here he proudly poses in his new strip. Return to top
LEAGUE CUP, ROUND2,
7/1/01
BLUES (In yellow) WON 2-0
Sam Hall (right) chases the ball, just out of shot. Blues, in yellow, on the back foot. Someone for Milton appears to have laid an egg. Jamie Robinson (right) tells Broughy and Chris Leigh to wipe their noses on their sleeve. An off the ball incident seems to be taking place. Chris Leigh goes to meet the ball, watched by Matt Bayley (far right). Leaning on the car in the background, is ball sponsor Andy Bourne - having your photo on the website will cost you an extra £10 please, Andy! No ball! Oops, sorry, wrong game! Watching from the touchline are Danny Gruic (unwell), Mark Wood, Steve Allott (part hidden) and Pete Gruic. A Milton corner defended in numbers. Again, Milton are well out-numbered. A Milton cross from the right. Why is Paul Nutten (fourth from left) marking the biggest lad on the pitch? Chris Leigh is foiled by Man-of-the-Match, Ashlea Sherrat in the Milton goal. Another Yellow attack comes to nothing. Ashlea Sherrat saves again. Another Leek attack Junior Blues' supporters - they don't get any better, do they? Game over. The victorious Leek Town team walk away having shaken hands. It's all forgotten - UNTIL NEXT TIME!! Return to top

BLUES (PLAYING IN YELLOW!) WON 4-0
Now just what's tickling Julie? It can't be husband Trevor because he's taking the photo - not unless ......... !! What is Mark Wood hiding from? Can't he bear watching Junior Blues or is he camera shy? On the left father and son Broughy are enjoying the match - one rather more than the other! Also in the picture, under the blue brolly is Sam Hall's dad, Phil, but I've no idea who that is under the red brolly!! The Maybank keeper throws out the ball to his fullback, having foiled Gareth Allott and Jamie Robinson. This picture shows that bunching never takes place at this level. the play is well stretched out. BUNCHING OR WHAT? Jamie Robinson getting on the end of a goal-bound effort. The usual half time rollicking for the boys. Note Paul Nutten (right) in mid cough. No 3 for Maybank shows that it is possible to leave the ground in order to head the ball. Another effort goes narrowly wide. Return to top LEAGUE MATCH

BLUES (PLAYING IN YELLOW!) WON 2-1
Unfortunately, we don't have more photos of this match to offer you, but here at least, are two pieces of action in the Cheadle area. This picture has been included, not to show Paul Nutten taking a throw-in, but an example of the gruesome support the boys have to endure. Surely it can't get any worse than this?
From L to R are Mick Sheldon (in red), Brian Brough, and Yours Truly! The little face next to Mick belongs to his son, Lee.

LEAGUE CUP, ROUND 1, 15/10/00
BLUES (In yellow) WON 11-1
Broughy outjumps the Altons defence, everyone else seems to be standing around. Oliver Edwards takes on an Alton defender. Blues/Yellows on the attack again. This time Oliver Edwards pressurises an Alton defender. An Alton defender heads the ball away to safety, as Blues' attackers hope he misses. Danny Lawlor's superb edge-of-the-box shot, opens his account for Blues. Paul Nutten watches the ball all the way, before heading it clear of danger. Oliver (what's he doing there?) is in support. Despite a shove from number 11, Paul Nutten blocks the attempted clearance. Gareth Allott shields the ball from an Alton player with Mitch Shenton in close support. Note the motley crew in the background, on the right - they are the Junior Blues' supporters!!
Take your pick of these lottery numbers, in this Leek Town corner. Return to top

BLUES (In yellow) WON 12-1
Action in the Windmill Warriors' penalty area. In case you missed him, Tom is second from the right!!
Quick lads, dive for cover, Broughy's here! More action in a crowded Warriors' area. Almost a case of who's missing! What are they doing, thinks Shino, (centre in blue). Sam Hall's dad, Phil, far left watches too. A Warriors' fan is in disguise as a halfway line flag! "Are you listening boys?" Shino delivers his half-time team talk. Don't these lads play with a ball, nowadays? When I was a lad, we ................ Return to top
The lonlieness of the dedicated manager. The joys of running a junior football team!Does it go in or not? Tom Bourne sits this one out whilst Endon break, persued by anxious defenders. Tom Bourne makes a vital interception before Blues' keeper, Jim Brunt, and the goals fall over!
Not Tom Bourne again, surely! Doesn't anyone else play? Matt Bayley (in yellow) looks on as an Endon defender tackles Danny Gruic. There is no sign of Tom Bourne on this photo!! The Endon defence attempt to clear a Sam Hall corner. Mitch Shenton (no 7) waits patiently. Gareth Allott gets his shot in, against Endon, but on this occasion it was well saved. Oliver Edwards is running in, looking for the loose ball. Please get this ball off my foot, says Danny gruic to the Endon defence. Must be some sort of new dance. Certainly not a ball! Return to top
