The start of the game was delayed to allow the Westwood Road pitch
to soften following a very heavy overnight frost. When the game finally
kicked off Junior Blues started brightly
and had the better of the early moments, with Danny Gruic prominent
in two left wing moves.
But Wolstanton came back strongly, enjoying the better of the
play for a ten minute period, during which they came closest to opening
the scoring with a header from a corner hitting the bar.
This jolted Blues into action and
they dominated the remainder of the half, taking the lead after eighteen
minutes when Gareth Allot, put
through by Sam Hall, scored comfortably.
Although enjoying territorial supremacy, chances were few and
far between for Junior Blues. James Brough
came closest to increasing the lead with a shot from twenty yards,
which went narrowly over.
H/T: - Junior Blues 1-0 Wolstanton
Blues dominated play in the second
half, too, restricting Wolstanton to spasmodic attacks, which rarely
threatened. Despite having a number of attempts at goal though, the
Scorers goalkeeper had few saves to make, as Junior
Blues' finishing failed to match the quality of their approach
play.
There were only five minutes left when Blues
deservedly got the second goal, which put the result beyond doubt,
Oliver Edwards scoring at the
far post from Matt Bayley's corner.
In the final few minutes Blues had
a number of chances to increase the lead but failed to take them.
Despite this they finished comfortable winners against one of the
leagues stronger teams.
