CHEADLE UTD 0-12 BLUES

18/3/01

LEAGUE MATCH

Neither the driving snow nor the neutral venue deterred Junior Blues from recording their 50th match without defeat. The unfortunate victims for this momentous milestone were Cheadle Utd who were unable to withstand a rampant Blues' side.

All the early pressure came from Blues, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the tenth minute, when a right wing cross eluded everyone except Matt Bayley, who slotted it home at the back post. Four minutes later, Adam Wood scored his second goal for Blues with a splendid first time effort from the edge of the box, to double the lead.

Blues now had the game sewn up, and although many good chances were missed, two more goals were added before the interval to put the game beyond the hapless Cheadle side.

First James Brough side footed a Sam Hall corner into the net, and then two minutes before the end of the half, a well worked flowing move was finished superbly by Oliver Edwards.

H/T: - Cheadle 0-4 Blues

In the second half, Blues completely ran riot, scoring eight times without reply. James Brough's poorly hit shot somehow did enough to cross the line for number five, and Gareth Allott's tucked number six into the corner after being put through by Matt Anderson.

A few minutes later, Gareth Allott calmly lobbed the keeper for the seventh and two minutes after this, Paul Nutten's cross fell invitingly to Sam Hall, and he made it eight.

A fine run and cross by Danny Gruic gave Matt Anderson an easy chance for number nine, and it was then Danny Gruic's turn to get onto the scoresheet, when he fired home a James Brough cross.

James Brough completed his hat trick with a simple tap-in for number eleven, and Mitch Shenton rounded off the scoring when he netted from close range.

This was such a one sided affair that Blues were able to give keeper Jim Brunt a run in midfield for the last ten minutes, where he touched the ball for the first time in the match! Stand-in keeper Tom Bourne comfortably caught Cheadle's only attempt at goal in the very last minute.

Normally matches between these two sides are very tight, but on the day, Blues were awesome, and the unfortunate Cheadle team were never able to get into the match.

Once again our grateful thanks go to Protech Electricals and The Britannia Building Society for their sponsorship.
