On a cold, wet, miserable evening, Junior
Blues dominated the match from start to finish. Even
the sticky mud could not prevent them from playing the sort
of football that they used to do, which has been eluding them
all too often this season.
Blues took the lead in the
fourth minute courtesy of a fine strike by Chris
Leigh, after he was set up by debut-boy Alex Wright,
and from then on the result was never in any doubt.
For the remainder of the game, Blues camped out in Alton's
half, and never really had to get into top gear. Further goals
before the interval from Alex Wright and Matt Anderson, gave
Blues a comfortable three goal lead.
The second half was a repeat of the first and Blues virtually
scored at will. The goals were scored at regular intervals by
Matt Anderson, who added three more to his first half goal,
another for Alex Wright, Jamie Robinson and Jim Brunt from the
penalty spot.
Obviously this match was a personal triumph for Matt Anderson
who scored four, but Alex Wright also played his part as he
picked up a couple of goals, as well as several assists. Jonna
Goodier, who was enjoying a rare run in the team, also had a
splendid game.
Blues obviously had many other attempts at goal, but incredibly
they all went straight into the waiting arms of Alton keeper,
Mark Drury. Had Blues got their shhoting boots on, the score
would have been very much higher.
The match was sponsored by Protech Electricals and The Britannia
Building Society.
