WOLSTANTON
SCORERS 1-7 BLUES
24/4/01
Now the nights are drawing out and the evenings are getting warmer,
you could be excused for thinking that summer is well and truly on
its way. But this was far from the case on Tuesday, as both sets of
boys performed on the foulest of nights, on a very muddy and very
wet pitch.
With Milton picking up maximum points in recent games, it was
vital that Junior Blues beat an unpredictable
Scorers' side, if they were to retain their title. They were helped
on their way in the eighth minute when Sam Hall fed Oliver
Edwards who finished well.
Their joy was short lived though, as Scorers levelled through
Daniel Sayer, with what was their only real attack on Blues'
goal, in the entire game. Most of the play was in the Scorers' half,
and although conditions made it difficult for both sides,
Blues were always on top.
Five minutes before the interval, their lead was restored. James
Brough's exquisite
left foot shot found the top corner, giving the keeper no chance.
However, despite Blues' dominance, there
was no further addition to the score, in the first half.
In the second half, Blues were always
on top, and two minutes after the restart, Oliver
Edwards put Blues 3-1 up,
aided by a slight deflection. The same player
scored his third with a splendid header from a Sam Hall corner, and
after good work by Tom Bourne, Alex Wright
scored Blues' fifth.
Matt Bayley's long range effort
in off the post made it six, and Oliver Edwards
rounded off an excellent game by scoring his fourth and Blues'
seventh.
This was an important win for Blues,
and it was thoroughly deserved. However, both sides must take credit
for playing in such dreadful conditions.
