BLUES
7 - 1 BROOKHOUSE BOMBERS
24/9/00
Junior Blues
were never extended in a game played during incessant rain. Reduced
to a bare eleven available players, Blues
were fortunate not to come up against stiffer opposition.
Having taken a very early lead through Gareth
Allott in the second minute, followed by a second from Sam
Hall five minutes later, the surprise was that there was
no further scoring during the first half. Chance after chance came and
went in a half in which Blues totally dominated,
but they only converted two chances from at least a dozen clear cut
opportunities.
H/T: - Blues 2 - 0 Bombers
The second half continued where the first had left
off, with persistent pressure on the visitors. Blues
missed a penalty, awarded for handball in the early moments, but then
they finally found their scoring touch.
Gareth Allott
scored the third and Matt Bayley
atoned for his earlier penalty miss, by scoring from the spot. Bombers
scored a consolation goal through Akeem Thames,
direct from a corner, but still Junior Blues continued
to push forward.
Three more goals were added before the final whistle,
from Sam Hall,
an OG, and
James Brough, from a well-worked
corner, with almost the last kick of the game.
It was a very comfortable win for Blues
who totally dominated the game. As last season, the general quality
of their approach play is excellent but a surer touch in front of goal
is yet to come, no doubt it will return as the season progresses.
