Excavations

Since its foundation in 1958 WEAG has had an active programme of excavation and field walking. Past excavations have included sites such as Little London, Chigwell (1991) and the Romano-British Temple at Harlow (1984). We have also conducted field-walking surveys, including the Thames at Rainham as part of the Thames foreshore project.

Our current projects are:

  • Copped Hall
    Our main site at present.

  • Sunday Walks
See the Research & Excavation Committee announcements and reports in WEAG News
  • Roman Road from Tilbury to Braughing
Involving aerial survey, field walking and digging of a trial trench; so far the evidence for the existence of the road is circumstantial rather than hard.
