Wednesday 07th June 2000 - Day five, Trevalgan Farm rest day Prev Next
A rest day. How much I had longed for this as I walked across the sand and the cliffs the previous evening. At about half past seven I had breakfast then drifted in and out of sleep until half past nine when I stuck my head out of the tent and saw that the office was open. I went over and paid for my stay, £4-50 per night. The shop wasn't heavily stocked but I found enough provisions to keep me going and ready me for the next day.

The next day was going to be a long one. I had seen it described as severe, so the training of the day before plus a rest day was going to put me in as good a position as I was ever going to be. Today I would eat and rest. The sun came out and the tent dried steadily. As I snoozed a Jack Russell dog with a patch around one eye (later I learned it's name was 'Patch') kept nosing my cooking utensils and trying to steal food. I had lunch then a shower and my sunburn from the previous day scorched under the hot water. Here the showers as well as the hairdryer were free.
In the washroom, laundrette etc. block were two certifcates awarded to Trevalgan Farm: Camping Magazine Readers Campsite of the year 1998 and Camping the Specialist Outdoor Magazine Campsite of the year 1999. Can't be bad.
I then took some photo's
around the site where there is a nature trail that is marked by
the posts I followed on the previous day, Penny and Poppy the
donkeys and some goats in pets corner, an adventure playground,
electric hook ups and showers/dishwashing/laundry/baby changing
in a custom building. The site has come a long way since I
visited it twenty years previously.
I wrote my log
and continued to snooze until the shop opened again. A curry and
potatoes later I settled for another snooze; it must have been
the twenty two miles I walked the day before. I still slept well
that night although the metallic taste of the Happy Shopper
potatoes kept repeating on me.
