In great secrecy family and friends gathered in Perthshire towards the end of July for a surprise party for Felicity's 40th. The secret was perfectly kept but for one or two birthday cards which arrived from people who she thought could not possibly know the precise details of her ageing process. The party was held at the school, with most of the guests staying in one of the boarding houses. At 7.30 we were all gathered in the Library when the happy couple arrived. |
Up to this point, under the impression that a local pizza place was the destination, vague thoughts of cheapskate meals were in her head. The happy smile was replaced by a look of astonishment as soon as she saw who was there. People had gathered from all over the UK, and some from as far away as South Africa.
