Tips and Ideas How To Find Us

We were lucky enough to select Middleton on the Wolds for our home in 1978. At the time we did not appreciate what a great place it was to live.

Middleton is what one might call a working village. which people mistakenly think is in the middle of nowhere. In actual fact we are only 15 minutes from Driffield, Beverley and Market Weighton, with excellent roads and with York only half an hour away, the railway system is within easy reach as well. The village has lots of amenities and there are a surprising number of businesses based here

Like a lot of villages that have grown, there is are new and old parts of the village, which are mainly divided by the main road. Like a lot of villages the water supply used to be from a village pond. The only users of the pond now are the ducks, who have a constant stream of small children feeding them bread and other titbits.   The Centre of the village

The Village hall   Middleton is a very active village and there are lots of sports centred on the the village particularly involving football, tennis, cricket and badminton, with teams for both seniors and juniors. Badminton used to be played in the village hall, however one might say that conditions were not ideal and there were always arguments over what happened when the shuttle hit a beam. Nowadays the badminton crowd tend to use one of the excellent sports hall available in either Market Weighton or Pocklington.

The village hall though acts as a meeting point for several groups and is home to Middleton Playgroup.
The latest sport to arrive in the village is bowls. A group of people in the village devoted a considerable amount of time and effort first of all to raising money and then to building the bowling club. The vast majority of the work was done by the group and they have now begun to enjoy the fruits of their labour.   The Bowling Club

Quite a lot of the activities in the village culminate in one of the two village pubs. Both of which provide meals as well as the usual liquid refreshments.
