The Village School

Middleton Church of England School, is a triving village school with some 85 pupils. Thanks to population trends in the village the roll has shrunk somewhat over the last few years, but it has provided an excellent education for most of the village children, within easy walking distance of most of their homes.

The school has quite a large catchment area and acts as one of the feader schools for the Driffield School

Recently the school, with a little help from parents constructed a conservation area in the corner of its playing field. Now almost two years on it is beginning to develop very nicely and all the initial hard work of planting is beginning to pay off.

St Andrew's Church

Standing on the mound nearly at one end of the village this beautiful church and its tower dominate the village. The church unlike many small village churches is in regular use.

Recently there has been a large fund raising drive to enable the church tower to be repaired. It has unfortunately been suffering from the stream of heavy traffic, which passes just under the tower.

Middleton Methodist Chapel

The methodist chapel is part of the Driffield circuit and has a thriving congregation and a Sunday School for the younger members.

Every Christmas the Chapel organise the village carol singing, which is only one of the mainy fund raising events they hold.

Recently the inside of the Chapel has been redecorated, the exterior of the building is the next target, with some urgent work required on some of the walls.

The Play Areas

Middleton is lucky enough to boast two play areas. The one pictured is designed for small children and is safely located right in the middle of the village.

The second with much larger equipment is located on the main sports field along with the football pitch, cricket pitch and tennis courts.

All of these areas fall under the remit of the recreation club, which is responsible both for mainaining and improving the facilities.
