c.1910 Causeway

This view is taken from the Cross looking up Causeway to Townsend beyond. The thatched building to the left is known as Shepherd’s Cottage.

c.1904 Common Lane

The row of cottages were originally built for local fishermen. The memorial mentioned above can also be seen at the foot of the hill.

c.1919 Fore Street

This view looks towards Sea Hill and the sea beyond and also shows the well known Beer Brook that still runs through the village today. The

cottages on the right no longer exist (replaced by a car park), but the roof of the Anchor Hotel is just visible beyond. Also, to the left of the top of Sea Hill, is the memorial to the painter Hamilton Macallum (unveiled in 1897).
