This is the Homepage of LSLG - Loughborough Standard Locomotive Group, and 78019, which the group is restoring from scrapyard condition to full running order at the Great Central Railway.

Built at Darlington works in March 1954 to a design of Robert Riddles, 78019 worked for some of its life as station Pilot at Euston station, amongst other allocations to sheds including Kirkby Stephen, Wigan Springs Branch and Crewe South. As part of British Railways' modernisation plan to abolish steam traction, it was withdrawn for scrapping and was sent to Dai Woodham's scrapyard in Barry, south Wales.

In 1973, a group of preservationists from the Severn Valley Railway, based at Bewdley, rescued 78019 from the scrapman, but since this time it had sat untouched in Kidderminster station yard, at the end of a long line of engines requiring the attention of the works, until Early 1998, when an agreement was reached between the owner, Mr Charles Newton, and LSLG, and with the help of the Great Central Railway at Loughborough, and 78019 arrived at the Railway on 19th March 1998 to begin restoration to main line standards, which is anticipated to take around 2 years.

The work is being undertaken almost entirely by volunteers, with funds donated by the public supplementing the contribution made by LSLG's membership.
