Guidelines for Current and Prospective Members
|
|
List Purpose:
The purpose of the Railpres list is to promote railway preservation and act as a discussion point for those actively involved, and those with an interest in what is happening in the world of railway preservation. The list aims to allow the passing on of knowledge, experiences, and news related to railways in general and preserved railways in particular, in all areas, Motive Power (not just Steam ;-) ), P.Way, S&T, Museums etc etc.
Members of the list are welcome to put forward all points of view freely - treat it as your virtual mess room!
Material welcome on the list:
- Relevant Questions and Answers
- News from Preserved Railways, Individuals and Groups
- Appeals for Help/Finance etc. (please do not repeatedly send such posts)
- Sharing of Experiences
Please use your discretion with other material. If in doubt, ask me first!
Material Not suitable for the list:
There will be no stringent constraints on off-topic material, as I do not seek to limit conversation, but please use your discretion. Please, refrain from sending spam, or from continuing conversations using the list when private email would suffice. (ie when it no longer has any relevance to the list).
Please do not send attatchments to the list; be considerate of others' bandwidth. If you need to do this, I may be able to put such items on the shared files area for list members to access, or simply create a web page yourself and put a link in your post.
This list is intended to be suitable for all, including youngsters who, after all, are the future of our preserved railways. Please refrain from using bad language or the like.
Additional Points:
- The list is Archived. Please make use of this. Other features such as digesting are available - please look at the ONElist site to find out more.
- If the list is to grow and broaden, we need more people like you joining! Please, please, spread the word amongst your friends, both on the net and on the railway!
- The list is not moderated - nor do I wish it to be so. Please feel free to air your views uninhibited (within reason ;-) ). Please respect others' opinions. A bit of 'Heated Debate' (as Mrs Merton said) never did anybody any harm.
That should be enough to keep things in order - please feel free to mail me with suggestions for amendments or suggestions for an FAQ page.
I hope we can all gain something as a result of RailPres. The list looks forward to hearing from you! Click on the list logo below to sign up.
