From the heady heights of Corag Trymath to the dingy depths of Wineskin Alley the city of Tynash lives and breathes. Not just from the opulent splendor of her buildings, nor from the less salubrious dives of her dark alleys, but also through the people who live, work and play there. These are very much their tales, told through the eyes of nobles and thieves alike.
SYNOPSIS
‘It was the end of a long golden summer in the fourteen hundredth year of Tynash's long history. Trade had been good and the many merchants who made the city their home had become languid. Their coffers were full and they had food and wine stored up for the winter. Now with autumn upon them many shuttered up their homes, lit log fires, invited friends around and talked contentedly of the fortune to be made if the next year was as warm and sultry as the one just gone'.
Tynash is at peace but unknown to her people the city is being scrutinized by malevolent eyes.
In far distant Tarr - a mighty weapon school hidden in the Izle mountains - there stands a great machine. Its origin is shrouded in mystery but the Tarrians use it to warn them of imbalances in the world. A new word has appeared in its word-windows; Mamanoth. After much research the Tarrians conclude that this refers to the crystal used by the people of Tynash to seal the gateway to the netherworld of Dymonsath. The crystal by its very nature is unstable and may turn from good to evil depending upon the mind that controls it. They despatch a novice to investigate and if necessary to take the crystal.
Meanwhile to the north of the city lies the small fortified city of Munx - famous for its wine and its support of Tynash when her empire rebelled. The value of the vineyards is well known and the warlike city of Graythe despatches an army to capture and subjugate Munx. Tynash - after a hundred years of peace debates whether or not she should send help.
In the city itself - a place naturally shrouded by lake fog, new and deadlier mists swirl and are sensed by another Tarrian - Synak - who now resides in Tynash making a dishonest living by robbing rich merchants. He becomes suspicious when he sees a powerful entity enter the home of the third son of Morven Mornmar a member of Tynash's ruling council. Magar, desperate to discover the whereabouts of his beloved - Sylenia - who has been kidnaped enlists the aid of a powerful Mage. The Mage is, however, the mortal remains of one of the nine Arch-Magi who once ruled Tynash but whom the people destroyed almost one hundred years ago during The Scouring.
Magar makes a pact with the Mage and thereby plays into the evil one's hands for it is he who has Sylenia and the task he sets Magar to assassinate the High Duke, which will throw the city into anarchy and allow him to seize power.
Thus the stage is set for a powerful and riveting drama that explores adventure, heroics and war with many twists and turns along the way..
