An expert shot he kills one of the two Lancasian officers.

Sylenia Roganoth : Sylenia is the daughter of Hubere Roganoth a very successful Tynasian merchant. In 1400 she accepts Magar Mornmar’s proposal of marriage but is kidnapped by Bathmar before they can wed. During her captivity Sylenia re-considers her life and decides that she wants more than marriage to the third son of the fifth ranked family. When she is rescued by Cahrn Alvesüene she falls instantly in love with him. After a short return to her former life she leaves the Roganoth home and moves into Cahrn’s house on Eastgate Street. Synak : Tarrian dirk-master. Born in 1365 and the son of another Tarrian dirk-master, Synak came to Tynash ten years ago. When he first arrived he entered the Thieves’ Guild and was taught by Raktar. His reasoning behind this was that it would complement his skills as a weapon-master by honing abilities that Tarr did not. After falling out with Löfar he left the guild and now makes a comfortable living in the city. He met Tass Harmon sometime after Tass arrived in Tynash, possibly in the summer of 1398, and they quickly became firm friends. When the fight was over Tass returned to find that town where he had been born had been destroyed. Knowing no other life, and not wanting to remain in Kathra, he travelled east to Clos Reyniere and joined King Arntral’s army. Over the years he fought in a number of campaigns, reached the rank of general and was hailed as the hero of the Battle of the Peaceful Pig in 1393 when he led the Clos Reyniere army to victory against Lanca. In the same year King Arntral asked that Tass find his son and so Tass set out for the Jungles of Keresh with six others. Tass left King Arntral’s service in 1394 and journeyed widely in the southern regions ending up in Hazaria where he saved the life of Prince Be-Na-Baye. Taking the king at his word when he said ‘whatever is mine is yours’ Tass was discovered in the bed of the king’s favourite concubine and was chased out of the city ending up in Lanca and Kara’s arms. There he fell in love. When Kara announced that she was pregnant and that Tass must die, Tass escaped and fled to Tynash where he settled down and eventually met Synak. He helped Cahrn recover the Crystal of Mamanoth, Sylenia to find the missing Magar Mornmar and was instrumental in Bathmar’s downfall. Tass has an impish face that woman find impossible to resist, a disarming smile and cruel, often biting, wit. He’s tall, slim but good with most weapons, preferring the sword above all others. The Nine Families : When Tynash was originally conceived it was the dream of nine prosperous families in the old merchant town. These families subsequently formed the Ezath Carmutar and have controlled Tynash ever since. The families are ranked according to their importance and the ranking is reviewed every time the High Duke changes. The system of ranking was highly developed by the year 1400 and most factors important to the Tynasians was taken into consideration during the week of debate. This formal declaration of standing each generation ensured that the families continued to strive for ever greater success. The rankings in the year 1400 under the High Duke Ypar Koriath were, 1. Koriath, 2. Tunar, 3. Sendyr, 4. Trem, 5. Mornmar, 6. Croon, 7. Korvas, 8. Sothyr, 9. Devottral

The Zahgron Tradition : Zahgron is a Tynasian title bestowed upon the lord of a manor, usually associated with a royal hunting forest. The term was falling into disuse by the year 1400 and continued in name only until around 1690 when the last person holding the title died. The oldest son of a ZahGron and the one who will inherit the title is called the TreGron. If the TreGron dies before the ZahGron then the TreGron’s first son will inherit the title. The other sons of a ZahGron are known simply by the referential title of Gron. These will not inherit their father’s estates unless the TreGron dies without a male heir.

Tivu : The Tivu is a small federation in the north of the Young Lands which is made up of the city states of Jeroth and Ghrau, the peoples of Ung Plith and the Fisherfolk of the Fa. By 1400 there was peace in the area and the king, Zekumar, ruled from his capital at Khal Tivori via a network of sheriffs and mayors. The area is famous for its horse warriors who ride small but hardy ponies and are experts with the short, but powerful hunting bow. It is a land of contrasts with flat grasslands, mountains, and fertile valleys each complementing each other to provide a balanced society that willingly opens its borders to trade with the richer south. It was thanks to the foresight of the rulers of the Tivu that the Great North Road was allowed to cross the Plains of Zo’oth and finish at the capital. This artery of trade brought great wealth to the area allowing a safe route for the export of gems mined in Jeroth, and wool from the Plains of Zo’oth.

Tol Hardrak : Tass’ friend and second in command. A little shorter than Tass at something under six foot but far broader and more muscular. He had a solid, dependable face with long blond hair and a slightly crooked nose that he boasted he’d got in a fight saving the king’s honour. In actual fact he’d received it when he’d fallen from a lady’s carriage too drunk to hold on as it took a corner too fast.

Toser was once a gladiator in the pits of Urgat Barr and earned his freedom by winning one hundred consecutive fights. For all his bulk and fierce demeanour, Toser can be soft hearted and gentle which is one of the characteristics that women find most attractive in him. Toser joined the Clos Reyniere army primarily to fight the Lancasians when they first began to invade the city states of the old Tynasian Empire. The veteran f several battles he has been honoured by the king twice for bravery.

Veins etched across his leathery face like red worms. He originated from the city of Evadia and had been with Paydor for the twenty odd years the Grim Reapers had existed. He could well remember the days he commanded two to three hundred men, and longed for war to bring him back into profit. Wanted in any number of towns for rape and murder he was a natural sadist who derived pleasure in making his men suffer. He was one of only two Grim Reapers to survive.

Troving, Trover : The science of archaeology was unknown in Tynasian times although most educated people took an interest in the past. Groups such as the Corthagian Mages studied it in order to uncover any lost secrets. Some people sought out the ancient sites because of the wealth they sometimes held and also because fashion often demanded that lords, merchants, and other wealthy people filled their houses with snippets from the past. Although not many in number Trovers - a name derived from treasure trove - would seek to make their fortune through finding ancient artefacts of value for wealthy sponsors. The most famous Trover of the time was Gron Zuq.

Trys : Large area of forest north-west of Tynash. During the time of the Tynasian Empire it was kept well stocked with deer and wild boar and the lords of Tynash would spend time there hunting during the long, hot summers. He was awarded the Tynasian Cross of Honour following the defence of the Free Region Fort.

Tynasian Calendar : The most common calendar used in the Young Lands is that of the old Tynasian Empire. It was introduced by Sengar Van Koriath eleven years after the city was founded and counts years from the date of the founding. Dates before this time are suffixed with the letters BF (Before the Founding). The Tynasian year is split into 9 months of 40 or 41 days. These are named after the nine ruling families and are in order: Koriath (41), Tunar (40), Sendyr (41), Trem (40), Mornmar (41), Croon (40), Korvar (41), Sothyr (40) and Devottral (41). The exception to this is the second month (Tunar) which becomes the month of Vansk in leap years and has 41 days. The year is also split into six day weeks with the days being named after the old gods of the Karazor religion. These are Grazday, Delday, Kersday, Barasday, Miksday, and Lubsday. Lubsday is a day of rest for most people. There are 10 festival days each year. These are celebrated mainly in Tynash. These are: Koriath 1 (Vernal Equinox), Koriath 15 (Festival of the Leaves), Sendyr 11 (Summer Solstice), Sendyr 24 (Festival of the Scouring), Sendyr 25 (Day of the Children), Mornmar 21 (Autumnal Equinox), Mornmar 26 (Defeat of Hazaria at Azan Kath), Croon 23 (Feast of the Gods), Korvar 1 (Merchant’s Day) and Korvar 31 (Winter Solstice).

Tyranius Boll : Reybold’s partner on the doomed expedition

Ung Plith : Known also as the Gateway to the North this land of flat grasslands on the southern edge of the Great Ice Plains is bound on two sides by the Mountains of Zo’oth. Fiercely independent the nomads of the region defied the rule of the kings of Tivu until 1304 when Maku’s army defeated them and their Tribal Lords were forced to swear an oath of allegiance. There is only one permanent settlement in Ung Plith and that is the small, fortified city state of Ghrau which fell to Maku’s forces in 1287.
