Taekwondo is the Korean Dynamic Kicking and Self Defence System dating back hundreds of years, and now being practiced by thousands of people in all walks of life.
Taekwondo translated means “Foot-Fist-Way” and encompasses all other Martial Art Disciplines and more, bringing together a complete syllabus to keep the student enthralled and inspired throughout their Taekwondo progression.
BASIC TAEKWONDO TECHNIQUES (Traditional Taekwondo)
All Martial arts include basic techniques and WTF Taekwondo is no exception, these form the basis and platform for up-grading and progression through the belt ranking.
In Taekwondo, kicking techniques are the most prominent with basic and the more difficult flying and spinning kicks. Taekwondo also teaches defense with blocking techniques and offensive punching striking and thrusting actions performed in various stances and directions, these are known as basic techniques and are the foundation stone that the practitioner builds on to progress in Taekwondo .
Poomse is the Korean equivalent of Kata in Japanese Karate with various techniques performed both defensive and offensive in set forms ranging from basic poomse to the more advanced Dan grade poomse , these also are used as a yard stick in the grading syllabus to help the student to master more difficult techniques.
Pad work, self defense and sparring are also practiced at different levels, increasing in complexity as the student advances through the grades.
SELF DEFENCE
Alongside the WTF Taekwondo Syllabus, self defense is taught to help build up the confidence especially for the young and female practitioners and the more vulnerable members of our society. This is an essential requirement in todays more violent society, with defense against grabs, holds, kicks, punches and weapons being taught in a basic context to be more effective than long complex techniques.
