This list supplements those given on the other sheets in this pack. Many books are no longer in print but may be found in libraries. The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library at Cecil Sharp House contains much on Early Dance in general, as well as folk dancing. Books in print can normally be obtained from Dance Books Ltd.

Historical Dance, the journal of the Dolmetsch Historical Dance Society (D.H.D.S.), is devoted to Early Dance topics. To subscribe, contact the Hon. Secretary.

The same society issues instructional booklets and practice tapes for its annual Summer Schools, each of which concentrates on a relatively narrow period.

Nonsuch: Early Dance. Dances from the Courts of Europe 12th-19th Century is a comprehensive series of instructional booklets (I-VIII) and practice tapes (1-9) issued by Nonsuch/Eglinton.

The Dance Research Committee of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.) is issuing a series of instruction-books using Labanotation; some include a short introduction to the notation.

COURSES AND CLASSES

There are many courses (half-day, whole day or weekend) and regular classes (weekly or monthly) on Early Dance, both in the U.K. and abroad. Details of these are listed in the Diary of Early Dance Events produced thrice yearly by the Early Dance Circle and obtainable from the Hon. Secretary.

 

SUMMER SCHOOLS
