Primrose welcomed near neighbours Lochgelly Albert to Humbug Park for this League
encounter. Albert come into this fixture on the back of a mixed run of results,
just like ourselves. The home side adjusted to the windy conditions quicker, and indeed were the better side in the opening few minutes. After only 4 minutes Brown had a speculative long shot, which unfortunately didn't trouble the visiting keeper. It was against the run of play when the visitors opened the scoring. Celentano breaking clear and hitting the ball under the advancing keeper, Gillespie after only 7 minutes. Primrose hit back hard and had 3 long range shots in quick succession. A strong penalty claim was turned down when Lejman broke into the box and was upended by Albert's keeper McMaihin. The referee deemed it was a fair challenge and awarded a corner. From the resulting corner Brown headed over. Most of Primrose's good attacks were coming down the right side with Mullen and Arnott combining well. The visitors defence was coping quite well, and their midfield were releasing the ball far quicker in looking for a breakaway goal. However Ferguson and Scott stood firm it wasn't until the 40th minute that Primrose created a golden opportunity when Brown headed an inch perfect cross from Robertson wide, it really should have been the equalizer they deserved. HALF TIME 0 - 1 Primrose was forced to resume the game with 2 substitutions, Mullen and Buchanan being replaced with Raymond Brown and Christie. This unsettled the shape and Albert became more prominent as an attacking force. In fact Primrose found themselves pinned back and unable to retain possession. The next reasonable chance came when a free kick was awarded after Ravenscroft found Christie with a terrific pass, who was duly impeded. Moody blazed the resulting free kick over the bar. Primrose were beginning to get back into the game, when again they lost possession in midfield and Albert swiftly broke forward outnumbering the defence 4 to 3 Gillespie produced a fine save only for the ball to fall to the impressive Parrish for a simple tap in after 70 minutes. Albert's tails were now up and confidence flowed throughout their team, another goal was inevitable. It came in the 75th minute when again we gave the ball away and their pacey centre forward Brown outstripped the defence and coolly slotted home for the 3rd . Primrose looked to be down and out at this point but a cross come shot in the 80th minute from Christie wide on the left resulted in a corner. From the resulting corner the ball landed in the box and a penalty was awarded for a foul! Brown made amends for his earlier misses and converted easily. Primrose started to apply more pressure on Albert's defence. This resulted in another free kick being awarded in the 85th minute 22yards out. Up stepped Moody to bend home another terrific free kick. Arnott was then subbed for Morrison to try and grab the equalizer but Albert stood firm and time ran out. FULL TIME 2 - 3 Referee: Steven Crichton Man of the Match: Barry Arnott for his tireless display. |
