This challenge match may have been billed as a warm up match preceding Camelon’s  championship party but the home team came out looking for a good win.  In the opening half hour Camelon threatened to overrun the Crossgates rearguard where the two wing backs were constantly under pressure. Camelon opened the scoring when Laikie had no option but to give away a penalty. Barry Thompson gave Smith no chance from the spot kick. A cut back from the right wing played in the Camelon offence for goal number two. Primrose were not playing bad but were frequently under threat from a lively Camelon forward line. Primrose pulled one back when an opportunist goal from Patrick surprised the Camelon rearguard. Half time 2-1.

Crossgates made changes at half time with Grant, Foster, McLeod, and Bristow replacing Nicholson, McQue, Deans and Osbourne. Crossgates also changed from three at the back to a four four two formation. This surprised Camelon as they were under some enterprising attacking play from Crossgates. Crossgates equalised after some good work in the midfield allowed Foster to set up (trialist) Phil to score from close in. Bristow (another trialist) was causing all sorts of problems for the Camelon defence and it was no surprise when he scored the winner when Foster, from midfield, played a measured pass to the left wing where Millar played a precise pass in field to Bristow who casually placed the ball past the Camelon keeper for the winning goal.

Over the ninety minutes Primrose thoroughly deserved their win.

Man of the match: Yet again the ever young Tommy Ash.
