The Rec. switched the scheduled League Cup game at Rosyth, and decided to come to
the Humbug on League business instead. Thinking that they would take the points
from a weakened Primrose team that was without the use of key players Gary Braid,
Stephen Sharp, Stuart Foster, Barry Tillier and Colin Rushford. However the
Primrose welcomed back from long term injuries Tom McQue, James Lakie and Ross
McBride to form a formidable back four along with club captain Ross Millar. James
lakie was tremendous for the Primrose, winning everything on the ground as
well as in the air. Also back in the team was Steven Patrick and John Hobbs, who
was on the bench, both being out for nearly a month through injuries The Rec. started the game as favourites but were soon on the receiving end of some quality play from the Primrose, which pinned them back in their own half for long spells. Craig "Oggy" Nicholson, playing left wing back was showing some silky touches down the left side and with some nifty footwork nutmegged former Primrose player Graeme Sawers before putting over an inch perfect cross to Reon Justowiak who headed just past the post. Neil McLeod and Grant Laing were controlling the midfield area before Neil had to come off after 25 minutes, following a very late tackle from Rec's Craig Smart, Tommy Ash came on as sub and performed to his usual high standards. Primrose went ahead in 25 minutes following another dazzling run down the left by Craig Nicholson, who's pass was picked up in the Rec's 18 yard box by the ever alert Graeme "Dixie" Deans who then bore down on the Rec's goal and his shot/lob beat the out stretched arms of another former Primrose player Dave McNeely. The Rec came back into the game in the second half and Primrose keeper Malcolm Coull made sure the Primrose players picked up their win bonus with two tremendous saves, one from Ricky Vaughan that Malcolm managed to tip over the bar when a goal looked more likely. With 20 minutes to go, Gary Osborne came on for Reon Juskowiak, whose tireless runs kept the Rec's back four alert and very busy all afternoon. With ten minutes Graham Westgarth replaced Tom McQue, who had put some excellent work at right back but who had to go off suffering from cramp. Rosyth had co-boss Billy Spence double red carded on the subs' bench for remarks to referee Mark McHendry. Primrose: Coull, McQue, Lakie, MacBride, Millar, Nicholson, Patrick, Laing, McLeod, Juskowiak and Deans. Subs: Ash, Osborne, Westgarth, Hobbs. Ref: Rating: *** Mark McHendry showed a great deal of leniency throughoutthe game and perhaps should have produced more yellow cards to both teams but chose instead to have a quiet word. Man of the Match: James Lakie |
