Castle to Wallace Monument

This photograph is by C. Bierstadt from Niagara in the state of New York.

It looks out from the castle area over Upper Castlehill towards the river and the Wallace Monument. The houses in the foreground have all been demolished, and their gardens have become part of the Ballengeich Cemetery.

Orchard House Hospital, parts,of which have only recently been demolished, can be clearly seen in the middle left.

On the middle right Wallace Street, and Union Street are not completed and there is no sign yet of Bruce Street.

Round the old bridge on the left background we can see the rubber works, now replaced by John Forty Court student residences and the Forthbank Woollen Mill, which has now been replaced by a landscaped area. There is no Cornton and very little of Causewayhead.
