Old Stirling

Spitttal Street

84 Spittal Street

The building at the head of Spittal Street known as Glengarry Lodge is one of the most interesting remaining houses in Stirling, embodying as it does all the most distinctive features of an old burgh ludging. It is of three storeys with crowstepped gables and finely moulded chimneys. A turnpike tower projects to the street and rises at eaves level into a charming conical roof, composing most admirably with the dormer windows on either side. The house is probably of sixteenth century date and may have been built by the Darrow family who owned the property at that time. It adjoins the Spittal’s Hospital property and forms with it a group of high architectural quality.
