Tay Coast and PerthElcho Castle
On the south bank of the Tay are the ruins of Elcho Castle, the ancestral seat of the Earls of Wymss. It is one of the most complete examples remaining of the fortified houses of the sixteenth century. The house, which was constructed from materials from a near-by quarry, is notable for the turrets projecting from the upper floors and for the wrought-iron grilles protecting the windows. |
