Glen CoePass of Glencoe
The Pass of Glencoe is where the Macdonalds were massacred by the Campbells in 1692. Apart from its historical connections, the pass is one of the most romantic spots in the Highlands in a wildly beautiful setting among the Lorne Mountains. A fine modern road now traverses Glencoe at a lower level than the old one. It is usual to include the whole valley between Rannoch Moor and Loch Leven in the name Glencoe, although the glen proper is the western part of some five miles. Not far below the col is a rocky spur called The Study, from which fine views are to be enjoyed. |
