Strathspey and CairngormsLoch Einich
There is little habitation in the Cairngorm Mountains, which exceed 4,000 feet in their highest peaks. They are composed of granite and their name has been given to beautiful crystals of brown or blue quartz which are known as cairngorms. Part of the area which includes Cairn Gorm Mountain has been designated the Glen More National Forest Park, while to the south of this region is the Cairngorm Nature Reserve where rare species of flora and fauna are to be found. Loch Einich, a wild and remote mountain lake, is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms. It is overlooked by the plateau known as Am Moine Mohr and is accessible only from the north along Gleann Einich. Ben Maedhui (4,296 feet) is the highest summit of the Cairngorm range. |
