Ben Nevis

Crossing the river Lochy and the Caledonian Canal the road from Fort William to Mallaig leads to Corpach, where form the granite war memorial there is an impressive view of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain, 4,406 ft (1356 metres) above sea level. Ben Nevis means the ‘mountain of mists’ and cloud frequently obscures the summit. It is a volcanic mountain whose northern rocky precipices are among the most imposing in Scotland. From the summit the view extends from the Cairngorms to the Hebrides and sometimes as far as the Irish coast.
