play-cricket.com The Sheffield League has decided to use the ECB website play-cricket.com to administer our league. This means that the details of all matches will be entered on to this website and therefore all the statistics I used to do here (and much more besides) will be available there. This has been the case for the midweek team for the last two seasons and it works well. It would be well worth your while registering by going to this link: http://trscc.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp I will continue to run this site as before but ultimately it may be run down and the ECB one used exclusively. Annual Dinner Following two lean years we are finally having an annual dinner again this year! The date is 25th April and will be at San Remo on Division Street. We'll aim for an 8.00-8.30pm start. If you are planning on coming along can you let Abbas know abbas.shah@blueyonder.co.uk and partners are welcome too! Division B 2009 Next year's league structure has been announced and because of teams dropping out the lower two divisions have been reduced to six. We will play each other three times so we get fifteen games in the season, three less than last year. There may be the possibility of arranging friendlies on the blank Saturdays, possibly a Twenty20 style thrash if anyone is interested! Division B Aston Hall Harley Hollinsend Shiregreen TRS Woodhouse AGM 2008 A slightly better turnout than in 2007 but only just, which was disappointing. The
club was in a better financial position than the previous year with
approximately £664 in the bank. It was hoped that there would be no
requirement to obtain upfront payments from players at the start of
2009 season. CHAIRMAN – T.Duncan SATURDAY CAPTAIN – R.Powell WEDNESDAY CAPTAIN – P.Kirk A.Shah volunteered to arrange this for March 2009 as he was in the trade and could sort it out very cheaply. CLUB AWARDS Saturday Player Of The Year 2008 – R.Powell NETS S.McCormick would arrange 2 nets for 4 weeks in March/April 2009. AGM The AGM is to be held on 14th October at 7.30pm. The Rivelin Room South Yorkshire Police Sports Club Niagra Road Wadsley Bridge Sheffield S6 1LU Please could as many of you as possible attend as we need to decide a number of issues about how the club will run next year. Obstructing The Field Following Richard's recent dismissal in unpleasant circumstances, here is a link to the relevant law: Law 37 Also, here is a link to a YouTube clip of Imzaman being dismissed this way. Division B for 2008 Next season's divisions have been provisionally announced. There are 7 teams in our division and it is likely we will play each other three times. That should give us 18 games this season (weather permitting). The division is as follows: DIVISION B Harley High Green Village Little Matlock Tinsley Totley TRS Woodhouse AGM 2007 Disappointingly, only six people attended the AGM and these could realistically be called 'The Usual Suspects'. We have decided to keep going for another year both on Wednesdays and Fridays so please keep asking friends if they want to play. Nets will again be the four weeks prior to the start of the season but will be £3 a time. There is also the possibility of a pre-season friendly next year with a mixed Saturday/Wednesday team playing against a similarly dodgy team who happen to have a great pitch and even better teas! Next season match fees will, for now, stay at £5 for Wednesdays and £10 for Saturdays. Andy Smedley, after much soul searching has agreed to continue as secretary with Paul Kirk taking some of the Wednesday tasks from him. Again, we were hoping that some new blood might be found to help with running the club but none was forth coming. Please remember, despite what some people think (Richard Powell) the Wednesday and Saturday teams do not run themselves and we only get to play games because of the work done by club officials year after year. Please consider carefully helping out with the running of the club. Congratulations to the winners of the batting and bowling awards but particularly to the Players of the Year John Hawkins (Wednesday) and Imran Shah (Saturday). All the awards will be presented at the Annual Dinner which Richard Powell will be arranging for early March 2008. AGM 2007 The AGM is to be held on October 15th at Niagra Sports & Social Club, Niagra Road, Wadsley Bridge (behind what is left of Fletchers Bakery). Please meet in the bar at 7-30 for a 7-45 start. It is important that as many players attend as possible, please make the effort! We already know that Andy Smedley will be stepping down as Secretary this year, so we are going to need someone to replace him. There are a small number of people who do many of the jobs that keep this club running, if you are not already one of them, perhaps you'd like to start helping now. Nets Practice 3/2/07 Nets have been arranged for the first four Tuesday nights in April (3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th). These will be held in the indoor nets at the Sheffield Hallam University complex on Bawtry Road (our home ground). We have booked two lanes from 6.30pm-7.30pm and we'll charge a couple of quid (probably!). Hope to see as many of you there as possible and bring along any friends who might want to play. New Divisions Announced 30/12/06 The league have just announced the make up of the divisions for next season. There are three divisions A, B & C and we are in Division B (so we were not relegated). The make up of the division is: Division B Totley Little Matlock Sheffield Civil Service Handsworth WMC Sportsman Hollimsend Tinsley High Green Village TRS This gives us two different grounds next season, Little Matlock play at Phoenix and High Green play at Ecclesfield Park. AGM 2006 30/10/06 The AGM was held at the Sportsman pub and official minutes will be circulated. The most important decision made (apart from the batting prize) was that we would continue as a club next season on both Wednesday and Saturday. This is obviously great news for all our players but will require a continued committment by all to play as many cames as possible and to try and get new players in. Ken Says Goodbye 10/09/06 Ken Page appears to have played his last game for TRS CC yesterday. He is moving to London over the winter and so will be unavailable next season. Ken has worked hard to improve since he started playing for us a couple of seasons ago and has managed to achieve in all areas of the game, scoring runs with the bat, taking a wicket with the ball and finally, this season, taking a catch! Ken has given us all a lot of joy with his enthusiasm for the game but particularly the time when he tried to stop a ball with his genitals, there wasn't a dry eye in the field on that occasion, including Ken's! He has also introduced other players to the club and we are grateful to him for that Good Luck in the future Ken, from all at TRS. |
