The Pilot Interviewed by Network Video in 1997 Roberta Leigh recounted how a pilot was filmed for Space Patrol, and a brochure produced, in order to sell the series. Subject to confirmation, it is believed some footage from the pilot was used in the televised version of The Swamps Of Jupiter, and the story may have been an abridged version of the episode. Certainly there are some shots and scenes which jar with the rest of the episode owing to the differing appearance of the puppets, the way they move and different camera angles for standard scenes. The shot of Dart walking to Raeburn's office features the early puppet, notable but its rougher hair styling. This puppet makes other appearances in the Galasphere control room and is moved in a somewhat jerky manner quite unlike the semi-realism aimed at the rest of the series. The same is true of Husky, also a notably different puppet, in the pre-launch sequence and in the scene discussing his cake. The establishing shot of the Galasphere control room differs from the others in being taken fom a higher angle and with harsher lighting - note the shadows of Husky and Dart cast to their right. As the early versions of the puppets watch footage of the Space Headquarters model on their screens, it is assumed the city was built for the pilot too, and Roberta Leigh seems to confirm this in the interview as one of the major costs involved. As little, if any, new footage of the city ever appears through the rest of the series (large photographic enlargements are used for views through windows, and for the destruction of the Leyhart building in Mystery On The Moon) it can be assumed that most of what was filmed was done so for the pilot or at the very start of production proper. We have taken into account a lot of visual factors from the episodes themselves but we would gladly accept any suggestions or corrections (or even outright factual information or documentation!) that would allow us to run a definitive and accurate production order...
