Time Stands Still
Synopsis:
A strange distracting noise is pervading Space Headquarters, and when the Mona Lisa is reported stolen, Raeburn finds the noise is global. The Venusian Tara is responsible and his craft is tracked to Callisto, where he gloats over his new acquisitions. Meanwhile, Haggarty has invented a ‘time watch’ which increases the speed of the wearer sixty times, enabling them to move so fast they can’t be seen. Dart hits on the idea of using the watch to get into Tara’s palace and recover the treasures in the two minutes the gates are open while the thief does his daily tour...

Today I Will Be Mostly Learning... :
• The idea that time is perceived differently throughout the universe - 'Time is relative' - refers to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, but is also extremely forward thinking for the era. I wonder how many parents or teachers, when quizzed by children, would have known how to answer them!
A Venusian Has...:
• The ability to forget things when distracted. Marla is also concerned that Raeburn may fire her should she forget something.
“Don’t Call Me Pop!”:
• “Fiddle faddle.”
Is This A Joke ?:
• Cassie doesn’t believe Haggarty’s claims about the time watch.
• Raeburn, after Tara admits stealing the art treasures, tells him, "It's time you stopped your little joke."
• Raeburn also makes the humourous comment about giving the crew of Galasphere 347 time watches for a days leave, as to them it will be like 60 days.
The UGO Needs You‘:
• Raeburn “My job is to police space, not Earth.”
Riding Along In My Monobile... ‘:
• Raeburn drives Haggarty back to Space Headquarters, then tests the time watch by driving around New York!
Ooh, Bitch... :
• Raeburn of Haggarty “You’ve less sense of time than a tortoise.” and “Keep your hair on Professor. Well, what little you’ve got left.”
Continuity:
• The flight time to Callisto is 21 days, and the moon has enough atmosphere to have daylight.
• The crew of Galasphere 347 are due 2 weeks leave, though this expands to 2 months at the end.
Plot Device:
• How convenient that that the Time Watch is developed, and that Tara’s doors stay open for quite long enough for it to be utilised.
2100 ?:
• Haggarty’s time watch seems pretty conventional for a 1960’s watch but somewhat old fashioned for 2100. He also uses a conventional stopwatch to time Cassie.
Haven’t I Seen... ?:
• Tara and Aszom were first seen as Gallia and his aide.
• Tara's Palace was originally Tyro's in The Planet Of Thought.
• Dart's trolley was originally used by Sam Marsden.
Take A Break:
• The crew enter the freezer, then there is a shot of the Galasphere.

Astro Viewer Working:
• When Cassie and Dart are seen accelerated, the theatrical trick of placing glass in front of the set seems to have been used and we are seeing the reflection of their puppets off to one side. They line up pretty well but are out of focus, though this does add to the effect.
• Callisto has a light sky.
• As Galasphere 347 approaches Callisto, the sound effect of its drive overlaps the next scene by a few seconds.
Hoorah!:
• The French President is a woman.
• The puppets manage to stay frozen in time very well.
• In the launch sequence, Dart simply says ‘Galasphere to Control... ‘ without stating a number. (If you watch closely, you can see his lips move before you hear him speaking as the number has been edited out of the dialogue)
Boo!:
• The device on Haggarty’s desk rotates the wrong way when Cassie tidies up as the film is reversed. Then in the next scene it has stopped altogether.
• Tara states he has ‘the greatest art treasures in the world’, forgetting that he probably has articles from more than one planet.
• How does the ‘time watch’ make the monobile travel sixty times faster when Raeburn tests it ?
• While Galasphere 347 takes 21 days to reach Callisto from Earth, it seems Tara's ship makes the trip in a very short space of time.
• Dart's trolley loses its 'antennae' when being loaded up then regains it as he leaves.
• The missiles fired by Tara change appearance when viewed from the Galasphere.

• This episode is sometimes refered to as ‘Time Watch’, which may have been an alternate title but has more likely come from the storybook ‘Space Patrol And The Secret Weapon’. Some episode guides for the series, prior to the discovery and release of the episodes on video, actually give a synopsis of the story in the book rather than the episode itself.

Some nice ideas about time and how it is perceived but a very contrived way of using it.
