Erigone atra modelling page

Erigone atra and Erigone dentiplapis are two of the most common spider species found on agricultural land in Scotland and eslewhere. This prototype applet gives users an estimation of the proportion of E. atra that would be found in a sample compared to E. dentiplapis, providing the user knows some detail on the vegetation diversity, structure and grazing pressure.

The abstract from the journal can be read at the Elsevier pages, where the full article can be accessed online and in .PDF format.

To use the applet, simply click on the start button below. It contains a brief background page and a page where the user may input parameters for the vegetation etc. A separate graph will appear if requested that shows the mean proportions found on a range of different land types. This graph also shows where the users estimate occurs (in red) if they have input parameters.

The aim of this applet is two-fold. Firstly to test the use of applets (written with AWT, Swing next), and secondly to demonstrate the use of web based technology to provide solutions to specific scientific projects.
