Note: this is a Java Applet and needs a Java 1.1 Browser. If you are using IE then you will need to "Allow Blocked Content". This applet presents you with a series of 6x6 Latin Square puzzles to solve. It is not my aim to provide an applet to solve the squares for you, but rather to remove some of the leg work, leaving the mind with the interesting task of seeing patterns and probing the what-ifs. The applet shows the 6x6 grid, giving the available options for each box of the grid. If there is only one letter in a box then this is the only available option. When there is more than one option available then this is shown as a small 3x2 grid within the box. A correct Latin Square has only one option for each box and contains the letters A, B, C, D, E and F, in any order, in each row, in each column and in each coloured area. Left click on an option in the small 3x2 grid to choose that option for that box. Right click on an option to remove that option for that box. If a cross appears in a box then there are no options left for that box....you made a mistake! You can also undo/redo your moves (i.e. the choices you have made). Puzzles 1, 2, 8, 11 and 12 were provided by Everett Kaser. Puzzles 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 13 were provided by Mark Thompson. My thanks to them for allowing me to include their puzzles in my applet. Please look at their pages for more interesting puzzle-related information and software. |
