Redditch Swimming Club in Worcester Winter League Rd 1
Redditch travelled to Worcester on Saturday 19th January to take part in round 1 of the Worcester Winter League. The whole team performed very well and came back with a good second place overall after a close struggle with Perry Beeches and Worcester B teams.
Leading the way was Dan Ruckwood who took first places in 15 years 100m backstroke and butterfly and also took first in the open age group backstroke. Club captain Paul Wilkes scored a double victory in winning the open age butterfly and freestyle. Completing the individual victories were 11 year old Molly Dutton in 50m freestyle, Lucy Knibbs in the 15yrs 100m breaststroke and Laura Cranshaw in the open age breaststroke. Lucy also took third in backstroke and Laura second in freestyle.
The open age group provided two more exciting wins in the 6x1 freestyle and medley relays, the squads for these were Laura Cranshaw, Paul Wilkes, Jess Nice, Jamie Mackay, Rachael Jones, Craig Newton and Dan Ruckwood.
Other individual second places were taken by Harriet Jarvis in the 11 years breaststroke, Danielle Harwood in the 15yrs butterfly and Craig Newton in the open breaststroke.
The 15years relay squad, Lucy Knibbs, Dan Ruckwood, Danielle Harwood, Gareth Ravenhill, Suzie Britt and Robert Stanley, took seconds in both free and medley relays and the 11 year old relay squad, Molly Dutton, Jordan Workman, Harriet Jarvis, Dan Bridgman, Nicola Moss and Braiden Hartles took second in the freestyle relay and third in the medley. The performance of the 11 year old swimmers in their individual events was remarkable as every one was a new personal best.
Also competing for Redditch in the 13 years category were Michaela Britt, Lydia May, Sumant Kapoor, Taylor Hartley and Sophie Bridgman.
