Regional Biathlon & Open Triathlon - Wombourne 2nd April 2006

Redditch Swimming Club was represented by 14 members at this regional qualifier for the national biathlon finals and achieved great success with 7 qualifying for these finals on May 13th in Manchester.

The running started the event in cold, wet and windy conditions, leaving RSC supporters promising never to complain about hot and sticky swimming pools again! We were, however, cheered by some great performances as Amy Foster lead in the Youth E class (10 years), Nichola Moss lead in the Mini class (9 years) and Courtney Hyde was in second in the Youth C class (13 – 14 years).

There were more fine performances in the pool as Courtney posted the 3rd fastest time to take first place overall and Suzanne Britt was fifth fastest and took 3rd place overall. These two qualify for the finals and are joined by the third member of the team, Jess Nice, who finished 9th as the RSC team took the Youth C team prize. Bethany May finishing 12th completed the Redditch entry.

In Youth D girls (11-12), Hannah Rolls finished 5th and qualified for the nationals, Olivia Laxton 9th, Michaela Britt, 12th, Sophie Bridgman 13th and Hetty Mosforth 21st. The team of Hannah, Michaela and Olivia finished third and so just missed out on qualification.

Amy Foster consolidated her first position in Youth E and Lydia May’s swim brought her up to 3rd overall. With Clara Parker finishing 7th, the RSC team came in first and so qualified for the national finals.

In the Minis, Nichola Moss swam well and extended her lead to take first overall. In the boys Daniel Bridgman and William Fidoe put in the two fastest swims and finished 5th and 6th overall.

A number of our members also entered the triathlon, adding the pistol shooting event. Courtney Hyde scored highest at shooting and so took the Youth C triathlon. In youth D Hetty Mosforth took first in shooting and climbed to fifth overall and Hannah Rolls finished third overall. Other successes were the first places overall taken by Amy Foster and Dan Bridgman.

All who competed were great ambassadors for the club and should be congratulated on their performances. There was a great team spirit and the awards to the Redditch team were greeted with the loudest cheers of the afternoon.
