Club champs 2009 Entry Form(pdf)
Dear All,
The time has come again for the main part of our yearly club championships.
The competition is open to all club members, and we would encourage as many of you as possible to take part. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain competitive swimming times for entries to open meets and the 2010 Worcester County Championships. 9 year old swimmers in the Development or Junior Competition squads are strongly encouraged to enter some of the 200 events, and even the 400 freestyle, as they are not eligible to swim 100s at the counties.
Events will be swum under ASA laws, so anyone who has any doubts on the legality of their child’s stroke, or who just needs some advice on the best events for them to enter should speak to their coach.
Each event will be HDW (heat declared winner). This means that each event will consist of 1 or more heats based on entry times, not age, and that there will be no finals. Those swimmers without entry times will swim in the earlier heats, with the fastest swimmers in the final heats for each event. To win the event you must swim faster than all the swimmers in your age group, in any of the heats.
Medals will be awarded for each event to the top 3 swimmers in their age group. In a slight change this year, the event winners will receive a boxed gold medal, and only certain races will be “trophy” events. These will be identified on the programme. Trophy & BAGCAT presentations will be made at the Christmas disco on Saturday the 19th December at the Rocklands Social Club.
I’m sure that many of you parents are also asking “isn’t there a race we can enter”? Well don’t despair, our “blue riband” parents’ races are a firm fixture. Daunting as it may sound, this is a fun event, any stroke (readily recognisable or not), with starts in the water permitted for the less adventurous (or more modest) amongst you, so there’s no excuse not to give it a go, and give the kids the opportunity to raise the roof! Any parents not wishing to enter should avoid making eye contact with Sandra for the next few weeks!
Entry forms are available from Anita or Sandra on a Wednesday night, on the Hewell Road notice board or to download from the club’s website www.redditchswim.org.uk.
The closing date for entries will be Monday 12th October 2009. Due to the organisation required to prepare for the 1st event on the 18th, I regret that no late entries can be accepted.
This is a very busy programme for the club and requires a great deal of help poolside for the events to take place. A request for volunteers will go up on the notice board closer to the event, so if you feel you could help out it would be greatly appreciated. For some jobs, no previous experience is necessary.
Please note that if your child is not competing, there will not be any training sessions on the affected dates.
Support your child and Redditch Swimming Club and take part!
Best Regards
Gordon Hartles
