WCSA Championships – the second weekend

WCSA Championships 2005

 

The First Weekend – 26th/27th February 2005

  

During the first weekend of the Worcester County Swimming Association 2005 Championships Redditch SC scooped 14 Gold medals, 11 silver and 8 bronze!

 

Dan Ruckwood was in sensational form, winning 5 gold medals in all his 12 year old age group events, while butterfly specialist Paul Wilkes won both the 50m and 100m fly events for his age group and the County Champion titles too.

 

Eleven year old Danielle Harwood claimed 3 golds in her age group, while for the nine year olds Hannah Rolls and Daniel Strange, competing in their first County Championships, there was a gold apiece.

 

Silver medals went to Laura Cranshaw and Nicola Strange, while Lucy Knibbs, James Green, Sam Holtom and Stuart Mackay were all awarded bronzes.

 

A further 33 top ten finishes went to Jamie Mackay, 10 year olds Elizabeth Humphreys, Michaela Britt and Olivia Laxton, 11 year old Robert Stanley, 12 year olds Emma Green and Suzanne Britt, 13 year olds Jessica Nice and Lucy Edwards and 14 year old Vicki Crisp.

 

Earlier in the month there was success for Jamie Mackay and Stuart Mackay in the long distance Championships held at Hereford. Jamie and younger brother Stuart won both their 1500m and 800m freestyle age groups. Sam Holtom scooped a silver in the 14 years 800m free with a 4th place for Jessica Nice in the 13 year old girls 800m and two 5th places for Suzanne Britt in the 12 year old girls 800m and 1500m free.

 

 

The second weekend – 12th/13th March 2005

 

 

Redditch SC travelled to Wolverhampton for the second weekend of the WCSA 2005 Championships and came away with another bagful of medals. In all 18 Gold, 10 Silver and 10 Bronze medals were awarded to swimmers from the club.

 

Gold medal winners were Dan Ruckwood (7), Danielle Harwood (5), and Nicola Strange (2) with one each for Lucy Knibbs, Laura Cranshaw, Jamie Mackay and Paul Wilkes.

 

Winners of silver medals were Daniel Strange, Hannah Rolls, Vicki Crisp and James Green while amongst the bronze medallists were Elizabeth Humphreys, Lucy Edwards, Sam Holtom and Stuart Mackay.

 

Another successful weekend saw many swimmers finish in the top ten for their age groups. Among them were Sophie Bridgman, competing in her first County Championships, Michaela Britt, Olivia Laxton, Suzanne Britt, Emma Green, Pasanan Locke, Robert Stanley and Jessica Nice.

 

Some of the swimmers achieved the qualifying times needed for the Midland District Championships and will compete at Coventry in May and June.
