Gala in Leamington on 8th January
(for inclusion in
press w/c 17/1/05)
Redditch
Swimming Club had a foretaste of life in the first division of the Nuneaton
Diddy League when they came up against five other first division clubs in the
Ginger North Relay Gala in Leamington on 8th January. The team
finished a creditable fourth overall which shows they have every chance of
making their mark this year.
The
new 9 year age group, Taylor Hartley, Joshua
Major-Seager, Simon Hotchkin, David
Green, Lydia May, Abigail Enston, Sasha Knibbs and Amy Foster, made a great start. The boys won
the breaststroke relay and the group added a further 2 second and 3 third
places.
The
12 year girls (Bethany May, Lucy Knibbs, Sophie
Parkins and Danielle
Harwood) came first in the
breaststroke relay and second in the medley. Special mention should be made of
the boys who swam up in age alongside Robert
Stanley and registered some competitive performances.
There
were fine performances at 11 years. The girls (Harriet
Lennon, Olivia Laxton, Michaela Britt
and Sophie Randall) came second in
the freestyle and third in the breaststroke and medley. The boys (Lewis Biddle, Jan Freihammer, James Green and Chris Ball) came third in the freestyle and
there was a further third in the mixed freestyle.
The
10 year age squad (Daniel Strange, Robert Newlyn,
Brandon Dunn, James Scott, Cassandra
Robinson, Bethany Austin, Hannah Rolls and Sophie Bridgman) added a third place in the
boys breaststroke.
The
evening ended in rousing fashion with a fantastic performance in 16 x 1 length
freestyle relay. 2 boys and 2 girls from each age range competed and lead the
race from the start and won in convincing style to easily the biggest cheer of
the night. A marvellous end to the meeting and a boost to future prospects.
Well
done to all swimmers and thanks to all involved on the night.
