Ben Nevis (15 July 2006)
In order to "celebrate" my 40th birthday on Saturday 15 July, I decided to walk to the top of Ben Nevis (1344 metres). The round trip on the aptly-named "tourist path" is approximately 10 miles, which took me six and a half hours to complete. The summit has a reputation for being shrouded in cloud, however the weather was sunny and hot, affording stunning 360 degree views.

| South-easterly view along Glen Nevis. You cannot see the summit from the start of the walk. | At about 570 metres is a small loch, next to the summit of Meall an t-Suidhe (pronounced Mel-An-Tee) | |
| The path zig-zags up to 1200 metres, before crossing a field of scree. Note the snow, present even in summer. | ||
| Views at the summit looking towards the Castle Ridge. There is a sheer cliff of about 500 metres at the north face. | ||
North-west view to Castle Ridge with Loch Eil in the background. |
Cairn at the summit. It gets very busy on a summer's day, I estimated there must have been a hundred or so people at the top. |
