The Household - Outline Rules and Guidelines

Orders

Obey all orders from all higher ranks at shows and at battle practice. If you have a problem with any order, obey it, then want until the end of the practice, or end of the day at a show, and take up the issue with the officer in charge of your unit.

Alcohol

You must not consume any alchohol (or other performance affecting drugs) before or during a show or practice. Anyone found doing so will be refused entry to the field and will be subject to disciplinary action.

Minimum kit

All members should have the minimum appropriate kit for the rank they are portraying. Obvious anachronisms (such as carry a sword or waering expensive clothing but not wearing any shoes) should be avoided.

Authenticity

All members should ensure that appropriate authenticity checks are made before purchasing any new item of kit or equipment. The Authenticity Officer may ban any item from the camp or field on grounds of it being inauthentic. Authenticity guidelines may vary depending on the dateline of particular shows or events.

Weapons

All weapons must meet group guidelines and must be well maintained at all times - no burrs, rust or dirt. No sharps are permitted on the field under any circumstances.Members must only use weapons for which they have been trained.

Do not fight with equipment likely to prejudice safety.

Weapons should only be carried at the times and places officially designated by the society or its designated officer.

Outside of performance times, all weapons and equipment should be properly secured. Reasonable precautions should be taken to ensure that the general public cannot take hold of any weapon, or equipment, without proper supervision.

The transportation of equipment shall be carried out in such a way as to offer no risk, or offence, to the general public.

Combat

All members should use safe combat techniques. Care must be taken not to hit banned areas.

Anger, lack of consideration, or an excessively aggressive attitude (other that simulated) do not belong on the combat field.

Always stop immediately when you hear the word "HOLD" during combat especially if that person is the Marshall or the commentator who can see more that you.

Behaviour

Behave in a responsible manner at all times during Events and Practice sessions.

Civilian Exhibit

The civilians jobs at shows can be considered the most important of all. The camp will be set up for the entire duration of the time the public is present. At a show every camp member should have appropiate clothing and equipment to carry out their role effectively and authentically, including any civilian trade being demonstrated.

At shows you will be on duty as long as the public are present. It is most important that you behave well in from of the public - no smoking, swearing (if you must swear, learn to do it in period and without causing offence), or consuming non-period food and drink. Time off to have a smoke, go for a walk or shopping etc. will be by pass from the camp duty guard officer.

If the public ask you a question and you don't know the answer, pass it on to someone who does. Don't make up an answer - the public are not as stupid as some of them may appear!

Camp maintenance

Each member is responsible for assisting with camp setup and takedown, and with general camp duties such as water collection, firewood collection, fire minding, washing up etc.

Eating Utensils

Each member is responsible for providing, cleaning, and storing their own period eating utensils.

Event Bookings

All group members are welcome (and positively encouraged!) to gain leads for future events. Once you have a lead, you MUST pass it to the Group Business Manager as quickly as possible. No one except the Business Manager is authorised to accept or refuse bookings or to negotiate terms. If other members make committments, it may lead to confusion and possibly bring the group into disrepute. Please act professionally at all times.

Insurance Coverage

To be covered by group insurance, a member must be in good-standing: must have completed a membership form and lodged it with the membership officer, be up to date with any subscriptions payable, and must be in possesion of a valid group membership card. Anyone not complying with these requirements may not be covered by group insurance and will be refused admission to events.

Discipline

In exceptional cases, the group officers have the right at any time to ask any member of the group to leave without right of appeal and do not need to state the reason why.
