School bus struck by car

A Batesville school bus carrying no passengers was involved in a minor accident about 2:48 p.m. Friday on Southerland Drive near a ConAgra parking lot, according to an Independence County Sheriff's Department report made available to the media this morning. The bus, driven by Isaac P. Franks of Bethesda Road, was traveling south when a 1981 sedan driven by Brandy L. Bishop of Gap Road pulled onto the road and collided with the right rear tire of the bus. Bishop was cited for failure to yield the right of way and no proof of liability insurance. Bishop's sedan sustained an estimated $500 in damage.

A Batesville woman was injured in a 2-vehicle accident about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Sidney and Harrison streets. Velma Townsley was taken by ambulance to White River Medical Center following the accident, which caused an estimated $2,500 in damage to each vehicle. Townsley was treated at the hospital, then released. Townsley's 1995 sedan and a 1992 sedan driven by Olen Wood of Floral were entering the intersection from opposite directions on Sidney Street when the collision occurred. The front right of the Wood vehicle collided with the front left of the Townsley vehicle. No citations were issued.

Since Friday, officers also investigated five other traffic accidents, none of which involved injuries.
