Lake, USA by Sierra High
Country Photography
Can anybody tell me how this lake was named? Response: Townsley
Lake is located in Yosemite National Park, California, USA close to a High
Sierra camp named Vogelslang. It was named for a Townsley who was a ranger
in Yosemite in the 1930's perhaps a bit later. He was known for packing in
fish (mostly trout) to lakes in the Yosemite high country by horseback. A John
Townsley became superintendent of Mount Rainer N.P., Washington State in 1967
and also was superintendent of Yellowstone N.P., Wyoming from 1975 to 1982.
(Neil Townsley, Daleville, Alabama, USA).
